* Le LL-851-BQ-S fut livré au 550e le 10 mars 1944. Il a pris part aux 6 opérations suivantes:
Stuttgart 15/16 Mar 44; Berlin 24/25 Mar 44; Nuremburg 30/31 Mar 44; Schweinfurt 26/27 Apr 44; Mailly-le-Camp 3/4 May 44; Duisburg 21/22 May 44.
Le Lancaster LL851 était parti de North Killingholme le 21 mai 1944 à 22h40 pour aller bombarder le centre industriel de Duisburg, dans la Ruhr. Malgré l'épaisse couche nuageuse qui couvrait
la cible, les objectifs ont pu être atteints, paralysant la zone de Duisburg pour une année.
Il a été touché par un chasseur de nuit allemand et s'est écrasé à 02h15, le 22 mai 1944 dans un champ appartenant à Alfred Van Hoornick, à Heimolen (Flandre orientale), à environ 3 km
de Saint-Nicolas, où les membres de l'équipage qui avaient tous péri dans l'accident furent enterrés, dans le cimetière communal.
Le LL-851-BQ-S fait partie des trois avions du 550th abattus dans cette opération. Voir le DV-309-BQ-S, tombé à Westerlo. Le troisième, le LM-319 a été perdu en Allemagne.
Les membres de l'équipage du LL 851 sont morts alors qu'ils effectuaient leur 2e opération au sein du 550th.
Le Pilote Dukelow avait volé pour une première fois en tant que 2e offocier sur Hasselt (op 450511), puis sur Orléans (op 450519) et enfin sur Duisburg (op 450521) de laquelle, il n'est pas revenu.

Lancaster LL-851-BQ-S took off from North Killingholme the 21st of May 1944, at 22h40, to go to bombard the industrial center of Duisburg, in the Ruhr.
In spite of the thick cloudy coat which covered the target, the objectives were able to be touched, paralyzing the zone of Duisburg for one year.
It was shot down by a German night- fighter, crashing at 02h15 22nd May 1944 into a field owned by Albert Van Hoornick at Heimolen (Oost-Vlaanderen) between the Wever and Heimolenstraat some
3 km South of Sint-Niklass, where all crew's members were buried in the town's communal cemetery.
It had a total of 126 hours of flight.
LL-851-BQ-S was one of three 550th Lancasters lost on this operation. See: DV-309-BQ-S, fallen to Westerlo. The third plane lost, LM-319 fell down in Germany.
The LL 851 crew died on their 2nd Operation with 550th.
Pilot Dukelow flew one (first) operation as 2nd pilot 440511 (Hasselt), then 440519 (Orleans, returned) and 440521 (Duisburg, did not return).

Recherches historiques - Historical researches
- Des recherches pour recueillir des informations relatives à cet événement ont été entreprises, ce 15 août 2013. Une indication émanant du 550th précisait que l'avion serait tombé dand un champ
appartenant à l'époque, à un certain Albert Van Hoornick, d'Heimolen (Flandre Orientale) entre les rues Wever et Heimolen, à quelques 3 km au sud de Saint-Nicolas.
En nous rendant sur les lieux, nous avons constaté que l'endroit est devenu, au cours du temps, un quartier résidentiel aisé. De nombreuses habitations ont été construites et quelques fermes anciennes on été rachetées par des particuliers qui les ont transformées en habitations.
Nous avons rencontré une vingtaine de personnes qui ignoraient qu'un avion se serait craché en ces lieux, voici 70 ans. Il faut dire qu'à l'époque, il n'y avait que quelques fermes et que les nouveaux habitants ont commencé à s'y installer dans les années 80, soit 40 ans après les faits.
A cette période, la plupart des témoins du drame avaient déjà disparu. Toutefois, un de nos interlocuteurs nous ont proposé d'aller voir une dame âgée qui habite encore dans la région. Il s'agit de la veuve du concierge du château "Van Eycke", sis tout près de l'endroit donné par les premiers renseignements.
La dame nous a raconté que son mari, décédé voici un an, avait été témoin de l'accident, il était alors jeune. Elle s'est mariée dix ans après avec le concierge, mais était née dans un autre village.
Elle nous a précisé l'endroit exact de la chute de l'avion. Il s'agit d'un champ, un peu en retrait de la route. Elle ne possède ni photos, ni documents relatifs à notre recherche.

Indications coming from the 500th precise the plane crashed into a field owned by Albert Van Hoornick at Heimolen (Oost-Vlaanderen) between the Wever and Heimolenstraat some 3 km South of Sint-Niklaas.
By returning us on the scene, we noticed that the area became, in time, a residential one. Numerous houses were built and some old farms one acquired by private individuals who transformed them into houses.
We met about twenty people who ignored that a plane would be crashed in these place, here 70 years ago. It is necessary to say that at that time, there were only some farms and that the new inhabitants began to settle down there in the 1980's, that is 40 years after the facts.
In this period, most of the witnesses of the drama had already disappeared. However, one of our interlocutors suggested us visiting an old lady who still lives in the region. It is about the widow of the caretaker of the castle "Van Eycke", located very close to the place given by the first information.
The lady told us that her husband, died here is on one year, had witnessed the accident, he was then young. She got married ten years later to the caretaker, but had been born in another village.
She specified us the exact place of the fall of the plane. It is about a field, little set back from the road. She does not possess either photos, or documents relative to our research.
